A R34 Skyline 25GT-t coupe
In May 1998 the HR/ER/ENR34 addressed many of the concerns over the change from the R32 to the R33, with more emphasis on sportiness, and marked the introduction of the more fuel efficient and environmentally friendly RB25DET NEO engine. The RB20E engine was discontinued in the R34 base model (GT), and the RB20DE after last being used in the R32 Skyline, was reintroduced in updated NEO guise. The R34 GT powered by the RB20DE NEO, coupled with a 5 speed gearbox, became the most fuel efficient straight six Skyline to date (of any shape). The 5 speed automatic transmission available on some models in the previous 2 shapes was discontinued. In its place Nissan produced a 4 speed tiptronic transmission for all of the automatic versions.

- GT - 2.0 L RB20DE NEO I6, 140 hp (103 kW)
- 25 GT, GT-X, GT-V - 2.5 L RB25DE NEO I6, 193 hp (142 kW)

[edit] GT-R
Nissan Skyline R34 GT-R M-Spec Nür.
The GT-R reappeared in 1999, with a revised chassis and other updates. The stronger block from the R33 N1 GT-R was used on all R34 GT-Rs. The standard R34 GT-R turbos changed to a steel turbine. The R34 N1 turbos received a ball bearing core. Both had a higher compressor A/R ratio. A heavier stronger six speed Getrag gearbox was used. The head casting and the camshafts were significantly revised, and incompatible with earlier RB26DETTs. The dump pipe and intercooler were also improved. Nissan also released the special upgraded versions of the R34 GT-Rs called the VII specs. There was also other R34 GT-Rs VII specs N1, abbreviation for Nismo 1, with upgraded parts to generally make the car faster than the VII specs.

NISSAN SKYLINE GTR
In 1989 Nissan debuted the GT-R to compete in the JTC (Japan Touring Car) Group A racing series. The GT-R was undefeated in its first season. 4 years running the GT-R won the championship in the JTC Group A series, a record of 29 wins out of 29 races. Because of its dominance, the Skyline was given its own series in 1994 the JGTC, (Japan GT car) series. In 1991 Nurburgring 24 hour endurance race (First participation) Skyline GT-R won the Group N class. At the Spa Francorchamps 24 hour endurance race 1991 the GT-R won overall beating Group A, and Group N1 cars. From 1991 -1997 the Skyline was undefeated in N1 endurance racing in Japan, winning 50 times. Nissan never produced a Skyline GT-R to comply with the United States standards. From 1989 -1999 there were 3 models of Skyline GT-R produced. The R32, R33, and the R34. Each features the RB26DETT engine, ATTESA E-TS all wheel drive system, and Nissan's Super HICAS four wheel steering system. The engine is 2.6 liter, dual overhead cam, 24 valve, twin turbo charged, and intercooled producing 276 hp @ 6800rpm, capable of handling over 600 hp without internal modifications. The ATTESA E-TS system an electronically controlled all wheel drive system. When the computer senses a loss of traction it automatically sends up to 50 % of the torque to the front wheels. Under normal conditions the car remains rear wheel drive. The R33 and R34 are available with ATTESA E-TS Pro. The Pro system includes a more aggressively controlled torque splitting computer and an electronically controlled limited slip differential in the rear end.
